We've Moved

The first floor of the library is open for business. The library is wide open as all the furniture hasn't been delivered yet, but it looks beautiful and things are running smoothly. You still come in the entrance on the lower level but are directed up to the top three levels as the lower level is closed. The addition should open in September. The photo to the left shows the new public services/circulation desk.

Media Services is now located within the customer services area. Please see them with any media questions.

Here are the new reference / information desk and the new reference stacks. The entire first floor is now much brighter than it was prior to renovation.

Here is a view looking across the floor from the display unit for new books. This display is near the doors going out into the level one addition. The addition is still closed to the public at the moment, but should be open within the next couple of weeks.

Getting closer.....

Take a look at what is going on in and out of the library:

Check out the windows, aren't they great. They've installed almost all of them now. They have also laid the concrete base for where the steps will go.

They are starting the furnishings on the first floor. The ceilings are in and everything is looking clean. They've closed the bathroom on the lower level so the girls room is on the second floor and the boys room is on the third floor on the south side of the building.

Snapping Turtle Eggs

Look at Mrs. Turtle. She's laying eggs in our garden. Each spring she lays a big nest of eggs. We have yet to see them hatch. Don't get too close or she'll bite your finger off.

Moving along

The construction has really taken off. They have removed all of the supports on the three floors of the addition so you can see the wide open gallery space. They are starting to put in the windows and it looks wonderful. Take a look.

Here you can see they moved the last of the bound journals from the lower level up to the second and third floor. Most of the journals are at the Laurel Service Center but we've kept some very popular ones and the rest will come back when we have the room.

They have to move the shelving as you can see. There's a lot of shelf brackets going on in this picture.

And voila, here is the first floor. They've put in the lights and have painted and are starting to put in the doors. Finishing touches are going in and we should be moving the end of July.

Summer is on it's way

Spring is in the air, the flowers are in bloom, the baby ducks are in the pond, swimsuits are on view, and there are lots and lots of books to put away. Make sure you get everything back to the library before you leave for the semester.

They have started the top floor of the construction and have started painting and putting up the ceiling of the first floor renovation. My photographer is on vacation this week but hopefully we'll have some new photos for you next week. In the meantime, enjoy the break.

Library going Vertical

Look at this! The second floor of the library addition has been poured and the first floor ductwork is all done and drywall is going up. The elevator shaft must be drilled because we haven't heard any drilling in the last few days.

Here's a view of the exterior looking from the College of Notre Dame Side.

That beautiful shiny ductwork!!
