There will be core drilling (drilling of small holes in the floor all the way through to the next floor) on the 2nd floor in the center open area. The drilling will only last until noon on each day. The number of days has not been determined. There will be some noise and dirt along with the drilling. The contractor has promised to protect the contain the area.

Noise levels & Piles

Whiting Turner has informed the library that cutting for the new elevator shaft will begin tomorrow, Wednesday January 24th. This could possibly last until the end of next week.
The library will be very noisy as they will be using a humongous jackhammer. Construction usually stops at 3pm so it will be quiet after that.

The pile work outside the main entrance is going on now. As of January 16th, 36 of the 112 piles have been completed. The pile work should be finished by the first week in February.

Thank you for your patience.

Happy New Year

We're back from the holidays refreshed. Construction was ongoing while we were closed. The first floor is coming along nicely with offices being put up. Drywall is making its appearance. There is still noise, but much less than when we left. All systems are working. Hope everyone had a wonderful break.

Construction Update

Here's what's happening:
Work continues on the demolition of the old main entrance. Drilling holes in the floors (core drilling) will be done on all 3 floors to make way for the new electrical rooms and new bathrooms. A lot of work is being done in the maintenance area on the lower level to get the new server room ready. A street cleaning machine came through the parking lot late Friday to help clear up all the mud from last week's wet weather. The pile drilling machine completed 5 test holes last week. These piles are now being examined before the drilling of the 111 piles begin next week. The good news is this method of pile driving is not nearly as disruptive as we thought it would be. The installation of new duct work is nearly finished on the first floor and the dry walling of office space has begun. Unfortunately, the free coffee has ended for the semester.

Free Coffee!!!

The first floor is progressing nicely, walls are going up instead of down now. Luckily, by 2:30 the construction quiets down. This means that studying is most easily accomplished between 2:30pm and 2am in the library.

To keep you awake until 2am, the library is supplying free coffee in our vending room on the lower level through finals and possibly beyond..... Come and get a cup before heading upstairs to study. Enjoy!
